Fall Founding Session:

What Will Students Do?

Each 2-hour Rooted Connections session is an opportunity to slow down, get outside, and experience learning in a different way.

Students will explore the natural world as it changes throughout the seasons, noticing plants, animals, weather, light, textures, and the small details that are easy to overlook. They’ll have opportunities to move, observe, wonder, ask questions, and engage with their surroundings.

Throughout the program, students will:

Explore Nature & Ecology
Discover local ecosystems, seasonal changes, wildlife, plants, and the relationships that connect living things.

Create Outdoors
Use nature as inspiration for hands-on creative expression, experimentation, and making.

Build Outdoor Skills
Practice practical skills, problem-solving, observation, navigation, and confidence in outdoor environments.

Connect & Collaborate
Participate in team-building experiences that encourage communication, cooperation, leadership, and learning alongside others.

Slow Down & Reflect
Use nature journaling, quiet observation, conversation, and reflection to notice what they are experiencing and connect it to themselves.

Practice Stewardship
Learn what it means to care for the places we explore and recognize how small actions can contribute to a healthier community and environment.

Every session balances exploration, creativity, movement, collaboration, and reflection, giving students space to learn through experience rather than simply being told what to learn.

There isn't always a right answer or a predetermined outcome. Sometimes the most meaningful moments come from following curiosity, noticing something unexpected, working through a challenge together, or simply having the space to wonder.
